How Pilates works
Pilates will dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs.
There is a strong emphasis on developing "core control". The core consists of your abdominal and gluteal muscles together with lower back musculature. You learn how to initiate each exercise from your "core". This technique helps to strengthen and protect your body throughout your lifetime.
In most forms of exercise the weak muscles tend to become weaker whilst the strong muscles become stronger - this creates muscular imbalance which is so often the cause of injury and severe back pain. Pilates was developed with the specific aim of rebalancing the body - it neither overtrains or undertrains specific muscle groups, thereby evenly balancing and conditioning your entire musculature.
Pilates exercises use smooth, flowing and precise movements. Once you have developed good technique your body will naturally start to move in a safer, more efficient way.
